If food scarcity becomes chronic and food price rises become uncontrollable at times of acute scarcity, it will be a sure sign that our global economic system is becoming environmentally unsustainable. In such a scenario, it is not merely the security of the world’s food supply that is at stake, but, the stability of civilization.” - Lester Brown
FOODINSECURITY
LAND OF PLENTY

Solving the Crisis of Food Security with Little Time Left

Food Security is an international crisis that is little understood. We have long ignored this global problem perhaps because many rich nations are still comfortable under the current industrial, centralized food system. For several decades experts have been sounding the alarm. In December 2010 Food Price Index had reached an all-time high. In all likelihood we will see further rises that will take the world into uncharted territory in the relationship between food prices and political stability.”  But what can be done? The complexities that drive this crisis must be clearly understood. A film that frames the issue, reveals the forces at play and shows a clear path to solutions can be an invaluable contribution now, setting the trend, and providing leadership. Here come the heroes in this story: the men and women who come forward with solutions.

Tree Media is making FoodInSecurity with the plan that the ripple effect and impact of the film can go way beyond it’s initial intention. In our experience with The 11th Hour, the film became a reason to meet and learn, it was screened by Presidents before their parliaments, it was shown in festivals around the world for over four years, it has been embedded in curriculum and had gone on tours national tours for schools, universities and even business communities.
