Farm sites at various Los Angeles Public Schools

Farms in Schools
Tree Media’s Urban Roots film, about the urban farming uprising in Detroit, is supporting our Farms in Schools program. We are pulling out asphalt and putting in farms. These farms are outdoor classrooms where students learn sustainable practices like planting, composting and water conservation to grow food with the highest organic nutritional value. Each school will experience the growth cycle of Seed to Harvest to Table. Students will take the message home that growing your own food is a simple and vital process.

11th Hour Action
Tree’s first philanthropic effort stemmed from The 11th Hour and is called 11th Hour Action. The mission is to help people and communities move toward sustainability by encouraging people to work together to help each other reduce resource consumption and increase efficiency.  The mission also includes "networking the local," so that communities can share the experiences, both positive and negative, about their pathway to sustainability.

The 11th Hour action site has been accessed and used by hundreds of thousands of people; toured 35 universities in the United States and screened for the financial community in Japan and helped found the first environmental non-profit in Namibia; as well as has been incorporated in curriculum worldwide.
Funding partners for 11th Hour Action included HP, Deutsche Bank Japan, NRDC, Live Earth, Jena and Michael King Foundation, Christiana Wyly.
